Most conventional air fresheners mask odor. They add a strong scent on top of whatever smell exists and hope the net result is acceptable. This works for about twenty minutes. Frequency beats intensity.
A light mist applied daily to pet beds and soft furniture outperforms a heavy application once a week. Frequent light application keeps odor from accumulating. Infrequent heavy application responds to odor that's already built up. The former feels effortless. The latter always feels like you're playing catch up.
Choose your fragrance with the whole household in mind.
For homes with dogs and cats, formulation matters alongside scent. High-alcohol bases, certain essential oils at concentrated levels, and synthetic carriers associated with respiratory irritation are worth avoiding. A water and witch hazel base with trace-level IFRA-compliant fragrance gives you the scent experience without the ingredients that give pet parents pause.
